Members
MEMBERSHIP
What is a member?
Members are dancers who have paid at least a $50 deposit before the Kickoff Party and/or have paid full annual dues by October 1.
Do you accept new members?
Yes! We accept member applications year-round but new members are only admitted between May and August.
Who can become a member?
Do you love pink and gold? Can you count and move at the same time? Are you at least 21 years of age? You could be our next member! We are currently the only co-ed dance krewe in Baton Rouge and we welcome potential members of any gender, orientation, or ethnicity. Inclusivity and community are just as important to us as dancing!
Is there a waitlist to join?
There is not currently a waitlist to join.
How do I become a member?
We offer two paths to becoming a member: Flock-to-Dance and Pink Carpet Pass.
Flock-to-Dance: Flock-to-Dance participants start out as Flockers (click for more info). They are required to flock four parades during the current season, after which they become eligible to be full members at the start of the following season. Once they've met their 4-parade requirement, they may be offered a full dancer position the following May.
Flock-to-Dance participants do not pay dues, do not attend practices, and do not dance in parades until they become full dancer members. They do not attend the New Member Party or the Kickoff Meeting.
Flockers may be invited to join dancers in special non-parade performances and appearances. These are optional.
Pink Carpet Pass: Pink Carpet Pass dancers are considered members once a minimum of $50 deposit is paid. They are then eligible to attend events such as the New Member Party (a fun get-to-know-you informational event for new members) and the Kickoff Meeting (our start-of-the-season meeting with all returning and new members), as well as begin attending practices beginning in August.
To bypass the Flock-to-Dance requirement, they must still serve as a Flocker for two fall parades, after which they can begin dancing in Mardi Gras parades. Pink Carpet Pass members are also required to provide a flocker for two additional parades or choose to flock those additional two parades themselves.
After the first year probationary period is over, they become full dancer members and are no longer required to provide flockers.
PRACTICES & PERFORMANCES
What is practice like?
We have practice twice a week during parade season and some optional practices during the off-seasons. Practice is 1 full hour long. During that time we will learn, practice, and perfect formations and dances. Practices are usually outside in a secure parking lot, weather permitting. This prepares us for outdoor parades. Practices are moved inside or may be canceled due to inclement weather. Practices are currently held on Wednesday at 6:30PM and Sunday at 4:30PM. Practice locations are provided at the Kickoff Meeting.
How many practices do I have to attend?
All dancers must attend at least a combined 50% of parade season practices to perform in parades.
How many performances do Flamingeauxs do each year?
We generally dance in 2 fall parades (Halloween and Christmas) and up to 6 Mardi Gras parades. Several optional non-parade performances are available throughout the year, including fundraisers and as community representatives.
How many performances do I have to participate in?
All dancers must attend at least 50% of parade performances. We do not currently require participation in non-parade performances but they are highly encouraged. Trust us, you'll want to join the fun!
Where do Flamingeauxs perform?
We primarily perform throughout the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. As our krewe continues to grow, we're excited to spread our feathers and explore additional performance opportunities throughout the Greater New Orleans area and beyond.
What if I'm not a good dancer?
Can you count to 8 and move your body at the same time? Then you'll be a great dancer! Our choreography team breaks down each dance into manageable 4- and 8-count segments. Before you know it, you'll be putting each segment together and suddenly, you're a dancer!
DUES
What are krewe dues?
Krewe dues help cover the costs of parade registration, our DJ, the support vehicle, membership events, and other krewe maintenance expenses. Annual dues are currently $175 and are collected once a year.
When must dues be paid?
A $50 deposit is due before the Season Kickoff Party in August. The balance is due by October 1, 2026. Every other year is an election year and the deposit must be paid before elections start to be eligible to vote.
Flockers
What is a Flocker?
Flockers are what make our performances possible! Flockers walk beside the dance formation, guarding the perimeter. They make sure our dancers stay hydrated. Speaking of dancers, if a dancer becomes injured or needs assistance, flockers alert the Safety Captain. It's a fun way to feel the energy of parade day without having to learn one 8-count.
Some flockers are happy in their cool white FLOCKER t-shirt and don't want to become a dancer. That's ok! If a flocker has their eyes set on ultimately wearing pink and gold and shaking their tail feathers, though, they're eligible for membership the following season after flocking 4 parades.
Flockers do not pay dues. It is a voluntary role.
Support Teams
How else can I get involved?
If dancing or flocking aren't your jam, you can still get involved! How?
-Driving a truck and pulling our trailer during a parade
-Taking official pictures and videos along the parade route (professional equipment is awesome but not required)
-DJing for a parade, pressing "PLAY" on our pre-set playlists
-Joining dancers at marathons as we stand along the route and cheer on runners (you get to wear pink and maybe even dance a little)
